Why IRTouring?
Xin chào, welcome. I’m Hamid, founder of IRTouring.
Since 2013, I’ve been designing and leading motorbike tours in Vietnam for riders who want more than just a typical trip. From the mountains of northern Vietnam to the Ho Chi Minh Trail and cross-border rides into Laos, every journey is built on real riding experience.
IRTouring is where I share these adventures, carefully planned routes that take you beyond the tourist path and into the real Vietnam.

FAQs: Commonly asked questions
To ride legally as a tourist, you need a valid home licence for your vehicle type plus a 1968 International Driving Permit (IDP).
- The IDP is valid for 3 months from your entry date, regardless of the expiry printed on the document.
- ASEAN licence holders do not need an IDP, but the licence must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation.
The 1968 IDP must be obtained in your home country before arriving in Vietnam. In the UK, certain PayPoint locations issue them. In other countries, check with your local motoring authority. You cannot obtain a foreign IDP inside Vietnam.
Third-party insurance is legally required but inexpensive and easy to buy. However, it only applies if the rider holds a valid Vietnamese licence and the vehicle is registered in their name.
Your travel insurer may cover in case of an accidents, you’ll have to check their policy. Coverage varies based on licence validity, engine size limits, and local law compliance.
Yes. i have designed the routes and daily distances to be suitable around the group’s experience level, and the challenge increases gradually as the ride progresses. It can be a steep learning curve, but most riders surprise themselves by the end.
It depends on your experience and the roads you plan to ride.
- The Honda XR150, or 190, are the best all-round option for mixed roads and moderate off-road.
- For technical off-road or single track, the Honda CRF250 or CRF300 handles better.
- For main roads and longer distances, the Honda CB500X or BMW GS are the stronger choices (like for riding Hanoi to Saigon).
Most days involve 5 to 6 hours on the road, with the aim of arriving at accommodation around 3-4 PM, on each day.
Accommodation is a mix of 3 to 4-star hotels and homestays, most of them with swimming pools.
Twin share is standard and i dont charge for single rooms.
Breakfast is included. Lunch and dinner are not, and that is a deliberate choice.
Most tour operators pre-order set meals, which rarely suits western riders who want more than soup, boiled fish, or vegetable dishes. By leaving lunch and dinner open, you eat what you actually want. I ride with you throughout the day and I am always on hand to point you to the best local options at every stop.
